POSITION SUMMARY:
The position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and banking regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures, including controls of accounting transactions.
- Prepare the Call Report and all supporting documentation
- Prepare journal entries both daily and monthly; complete periodic reconciliations
- Process transactions and prepare reports on the securities portfolio using the bond accounting system.
- Maintain and reconcile Fixed Assets; prepaid expense; accruals
- Perform the monthly, quarterly and annual general ledger close
- Issue timely and complete financial statements
- Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
- Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual report
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for the Board of Directors.
- Provide for a system of management cost reports
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
- Process accounts payable in a timely manner
- Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
- Maintain and monitor all vendor relationships
- Remit IRA withholding
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Complete all assigned compliance training by due dates..
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance or a minimum of seven years previous accounting or financial experience, including at least three years of experience in a regulated financial institution.
CPA designation is helpful
An understanding of GAAP and Call reporting requirements
A high degree of attention to detail
Good interpersonal skills to build and maintain professional relationships with co-workers, regulators, and auditors
Time management and organization skills to effectively prioritize multiple objectives
Experience with Windows operating systems, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Experience with financial institution core processing software is a plus
Good Communication skills and demonstrated business writing skills
Good follow through on projects and deliverables.
Demonstrate resourcefulness and ability to take initiative in development and completion of projects
