Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (TUNE) is seeking an Assistant Director for Transfer Recruitment and Advising that supports transfer recruitment, academic advising, and partnership development in alignment with Towson University’s enrollment goals. This role is responsible for advancing enrollment from Cecil and Harford counties while ensuring a high-quality advising experience that supports student success from pre-enrollment through progression within TUNE and main campus programs.
While based at the TUNE campus, this position requires regular engagement at both the TUNE campus and Towson University’s main campus to support collaboration, enrollment coordination, and student transition efforts.
The Assistant Director serves as a key connector between TUNE, University Admissions, academic departments, school system partners, and community colleges within Cecil and Harford counties, ensuring alignment between recruitment, admissions processes, and pre-transfer advising.
Responsibilities And Duties
Recruitment, Marketing, & Outreach:
- Develop and execute recruitment strategies to support transfer enrollment from Cecil and Harford counties
- Represent TUNE and Towson University at community colleges, and community-based events, both in-person and virtual
- Build and maintain relationships with community college advisors, and local organizations
- Provide pre-enrollment advising to prospective students and families, including guidance on admissions requirements, academic preparation, and TUNE program pathways
- Conduct individual appointments, group sessions, and informational presentations
- Utilize enrollment data and regional trends to inform outreach, engagement, and yield strategies.
- Utilize Slate and Peoplesoft to manage prospective student engagement, including tracking inquiries, applications, and communications; execute targeted outreach campaigns and analyze data to inform recruitment and yield strategies.
- Collaborate with University Admissions to align territory management, messaging, and recruitment efforts.
- Provide additional support for freshmen recruitment at Cecil and Harford high schools.
- Contribute to TUNE social media platforms and web pages.
Pre-Transfer Advisement And Admissions
- Serve as a pre-transfer advisor, providing guidance on degree requirements, course selection, and academic planning for students from the TUNE region.
- Assist with onboarding, course registration, and transition to Towson University
- Collaborate with academic departments and program coordinators to ensure alignment with curriculum and degree pathways
- Provide advising support for students exploring major changes, academic challenges, or progression concerns
- Partner with University Admissions to support application review, admissions processes, and student progression through the pipeline
- Maintain knowledge of admissions requirements, curriculum pathways, and articulation agreements and ensure alignment between advising guidance and admissions policies.
- Create and update academic program guides based on existing articulation agreements.
Partnership Development & Regional Engagement
- Serve as a liaison between TUNE, University Admissions, academic departments, and regional partners in Cecil and Harford counties
- Support the development of community college pipelines to TUNE programs
- Collaborate with faculty and program coordinators to align recruitment, advising, and student success efforts
- Assist in planning and execution of regional and campus-based recruitment and yield events at both TUNE campus and Towson University’s main campus.
General Admissions Duties
- Complete general admissions duties including, but not limited to, customer service, applicant processing, holistic review, on-campus events, special projects, campus committees, and any other duties as assigned as needed to meet the needs of enrollment and the goals of the university.
- May assist with training or mentoring student ambassadors or support staff
Work hours for this position include regional travel as well as occasional evenings and weekends.
Qualifications And Skills Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience in admissions, academic advising, and recruitment or a master’s degree.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to travel independently
- Demonstrates strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to analyze information and make informed decisions
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple units
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in freshman and transfer recruitment and academic advising
- Experience with Student information systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, Student Success Collaborative, ImageNow)
- Experience utilizing platforms for tracking engagement and event RSVP’s (e.g. Slate, Microsoft Forms)
- Demonstrated experience leveraging tools for creating event flyers (e.g. Adobe, Canva) and social media platforms for engagement (e.g. Facebook, X, Instagram)
Salary and Benefits
Targeted hiring range is $58,000 - $62,000 and full university benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 17 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
