‘Between the Lines’ Juried Art Exhibition Celebrates Harford County Public Library’s 80th Anniversary

Harford County Public Library and Harford County Cultural Arts Board are partnering with the Havre de Grace Arts Collective on a juried art exhibition, “Between the Lines,” celebrating the Library’s 80th anniversary. The exhibition will be on display November 24-January 4 at the Bel Air Library, 100 East Pennsylvania Avenue.

"Between the Lines" showcases 20 pieces of artwork from seven artists: Rieko Chacey, Betty-Jean Fitzgerald, Cynthia Pfeffer-Koerber, Gay Lynn Price at Yia Yia's Yarns, Kyna D. Shaw, Monica Youn and Eric Young. Together, these works explore the form, function and spirit of the book as both the medium and muse. The exhibition features pieces made from books, inspired by books and those celebrating books, across a range of artistic media.

The artwork for the exhibition was selected by two jurors from the Harford County Cultural Arts Board and three jurors from the Havre de Grace Arts Collective membership.

“Books are works of art in their own right, and inviting artists to draw inspiration from them is a creative way to help the Library celebrate its 80th anniversary,” said Mary Hastler, CEO of Harford County Public Library. “We are so appreciative of the Harford County Cultural Arts Board and the Havre de Grace Arts Collective for bringing this juried art exhibition to life, and we thank the artists for sharing their incredible talents with us.”

Haley Strong, executive director of the Havre de Grace Arts Collective, said, “As our world grows increasingly digital, we are seeing a resurgence in popularity of physical media, like books. This exhibition celebrates the relationship between books and visual art, both as inspiration and as a tangible, workable media."
